The ESPN analyst, who was calling the game, repeatedly pointed to the humidity as the Broncos struggled to handle the football against the Chiefs, and viewers quickly decided they had heard enough.

The criticism sharpened after Bo Nix fumbled three times during the matchup, losing one, recovering one himself, and having another go out of bounds, as Denver lost 31-10 to Kansas City.
One fanwrote online, “They’re using humidity to defend Bo Nix fumble……. Open the roof at NRG, this can’t keep happening.”
Another fanzeroed in on Aikman’s explanation, writing, “‘Its so humid tonight,’ Troy Aikman. Stop making excuses for Bo Nix.”
Others found the weather discussion difficult to take seriously. One X user joked about the conditions, “Hearing Troy Aikman complaining about the oppressive humidity (62%) in tonight’s game at KC is absolutely hilarious 😂.”

Another reaction was more direct: “The humidity excuse Aikman keeps using is hilariously bad.”
The frustration was not limited to Nix. Another fanquestioned Aikman, writing, “Am I hearing Troy Aikman excuse Bo Nix losing the ball because of how humid it is? And then blame the bad snaps entirely on the center while again bringing up the humidity?”
One of the fumbles was recovered by Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, while the Broncos committed two turnovers overall. Kansas City steadily pulled away after the teams were tied 7-7 in the first quarter.
Bo Nix’s Rough Opener Gives Critics More Fuel
Nix entered Week 1 withhigh expectations after Denver’s 14-3 season and run to the AFC Championship Game.
Monday was supposed to be an early measuring stick for the reigning division champion as it looked to prove last season was no one-year spike. Instead, the opener quickly became anything but the clean start the Broncos wanted.
Nix completed 17 of 28 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception as Denver managed only 176 total yards.
The performance also followed a 2025 season in which Nix finished No. 19 among qualifying quarterbacks with a 74.9QB Impact grade from PFN. He threw for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Nix was hardly the reason the Broncos lost. Kansas City outgained Denver 392-176, controlled possession for more than 33 minutes, and turned Kenneth Walker III loose for 173 rushing yards.
Still, the broadcast repeatedly pointed to the humid conditions as Denver struggled to handle the football, offering viewers an explanation they were unwilling to accept.
For Nix, the fastest way to end that argument is straightforward. Denver has to handle the football better, regardless of what the weather report says.
