The NFL has seen a number of tough injuries to promising young players so far. A day after Jayden Daniels suffered an injury, the NFC East has seen another one of its young stars go down on Monday Night Football.
New York Giants star quarterback Jaxson Dart went down on the first drive of the game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was hit high and low on a third-down play while trying to connect on a deep pass to Theo Johnson.

Dart was able to walk off the field but had a noticeable limp that leaves his status up in the air. The Giants were having a strong drive before the play came on a missed third down, leading to a punt.

Dart’s Status Is Unclear
Dart went into the medical tent and was later spotted walking to the locker room on the broadcast. The Giants then turned to Jameis Winston at backup quarterback.
Dart’s aggressive style of play has raised some concerns about his durability, but this injury did not appear to result from him taking an unnecessary hit while scrambling. Instead, he took an awkward hit high and low as he attempted to make a throw, leaving him grabbing at his thigh and knee area.
The Giants got off to a promising start in Week 1 thanks in large part to Dart’s performance.

Dart entered the 2025 season as a first-round pick but did not take over as the Giants’ starter until Week 4. Once given the opportunity, he quickly established himself as a major part of New York’s future.

In 14 games last season, including 12 starts, Dart completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added 487 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
Dart carried that momentum into 2026, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 54 rushing yards in the Giants’ Week 1 win over Dallas. He entered Monday night with a 134.2 passer rating this season and had quickly become one of the most important young quarterbacks in the NFC.
With the Giants trying to build around their young quarterback, his injury is now something to monitor closely.
Update
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Dart is now questionable to return with a knee injury. Per the broadcast, Dart was walking to the locker room and was not getting an X-Ray.
