Seahawks QB Sam Darnold 'striving' to play Week 3 vs Commanders
· Yahoo Sports
The Seattle Seahawks have been rocking with backup Drew Lock under center for the past two weeks, and he has helped guide Seattle to a 2-0 start. However it seems there may be a possibility they may be getting regular starter Sam Darnold back for their Week 3 showdown against the Washington Commanders.
On Wednesday, head coach Mike Macdonald said Darnold would practice with the intention of ramping him up and getting an idea if he could be ready to go by Friday. Now we have heard from Darnold himself, who said he is "striving" to be able to play. Of course, he did specify he is "taking it day by day" and not push himself unnecessarily.

Sam Darnold, speaking to reporters now, when asked if he thinks he'll play Sunday at Washington: "I'm really striving for that. But like I said, I'm just taking it day by day. I also don't want to jinx anything."

Personally, I feel as if the Seahawks should be overly cautious with Sam Darnold, even if it means protecting him from himself. The Commanders will likely be stiffer competition than the Arizona Cardinals, but the Seahawks should still be able to take care of business even with another game from Drew Lock. There is no need to rush Darnold back to play the 0-2 Commanders, not when more challenging teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos loom within the next few weeks.
Seattle will need Darnold back for those games, even arguably against the LA Chargers. Unless Sam Darnold is 100% healthy and ready to go, no doubt about it, the team does not need to risk his long term health at the Commanders' subpar stadium.
