MM 9.28: Maryland women’s tennis’ Oliwia Orlinska advances through ITA All-American Championship qualifying draw

With six Maryland women’s tennis players competing in Cary, North Carolina, at the ITA All-American Championships, Oliwia Orlinska stole the headlines. The 2026 All-Big Ten second-team honoree advanced through the qualifying draw into the Round of 16.

A mainstay as the Terps’ top singles weapon during her sophomore season, No. 6-seed Orlinska has picked up where she left off. She defeated Wake Forest’s Eva Oxford in straight sets on Monday, needing a tightly-contested first-set tiebreaker to start off strong.

While Orlinska’s second-round match was far from smooth sailing, the junior broke Oklahoma’s Gloriana Nahum multiple times in the decisive set to secure a three-set victory. Orlinska cruised through the first-set tiebreaker before dropping the second set in close fashion.

Orlinska will face Ohio State’s Audrey Spencer, who came back from a set down on Tuesday, in the next round.
