Baseball's most heated rivalry will take center stage in the postseason for the second year in a row, with the New York Yankees hosting the Boston Red Sox in a Wild Card series.
Last year's edition in New York saw the Yankees drop the first game before taking the next two to move on to the Division Series, where they fell to the Blue Jays. This year's first-round matchup will mark the seventh postseason series between the AL East rivals, and the winner will once again face another division foe in the top-seeded Rays.
Game 3 of the 2025 series introduced Cam Schilittler to a national audience, as his eight shutout innings with no walks and 12 strikeouts punched the Yankees' ticket to the next round. Now the 25-year-old Boston native is the AL Cy Young favorite after going 14-6 with a 1.95 ERA during the regular season and will lead New York's rotation in the playoffs.
Aaron Judge has been out with a calf strain and may not play against the Sox, but Ben Rice has become the key cog in the Yankees' lineup with 41 homers and an .897 OPS. He went 4 for 18 in the postseason last year but one of those hits was a key homer in Game 2 against Boston.
This Red Sox team has a bit of a different look, with Chad Tracy now running the show in the dugout after Alex Cora's dismissal 27 games into the season. Willson Contreras is the big bat in the middle of the lineup in his first season with the Sox, leading the team with a .905 OPS, 27 homers and 81 RBIs.

The best-of-three series between the Yankees and Red Sox will be played entirely at Yankee Stadium in New York.
Thursday's schedule will be based on how many Game 3s are necessary. If all four series go to a Game 3, the start time and channel will be the same as for Games 1 and 2.
