Logan-Rogersville survives scare against Hillcrest
Logan-Rogersville (6-0) and Hillcrest (1-4) battled all evening in North Springfield. The Wildcats erased an early deficit and defeated the Hornets 48-26.
Hillcrest led 12-6 thanks to rushing touchdowns from Keyon Clay and Phillip Gardner, who scampered for a 70-yard touchdown through the heart of Rogersville’s defense.
Rogersville running back Joe Roche tied the game 6-6 with a short rush before Gardner’s big run. Quarterback Kasimir Manczuk threw a 35-yard touchdown to Skye Vaughn to tie the game in the closing seconds of the first half.
In the second half, Rogersville took over. The Wildcats scored 29 unanswered points thanks to two Roche rushing touchdowns and a Manczuk keeper. Carl Westerling also scored on a pick-six when the ball deflected off a Hillcrest wide receiver’s leg, popping it straight into the air. Roche scored his fourth touchdown and the last one of the game on the final possession.
Before Roche’s final score, Hillcrest quarterback Dylan Kirby threw a touchdown pass to Josh Jefferson. Nolan Skelton also added a short-range rushing touchdown.
Glendale uses epic comeback in road win against Lebanon
Glendale put together a major comeback to secure its third win in four weeks. The Falcons defeated Lebanon 49-38 to win their second straight game.
The Yellowjackets jumped out to 15-0 on rushing touchdowns from Isaac Kelm and Gage Starnes. Glendale cut Lebanon’s lead thanks to two touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Ryder Spickard to Max Feuerbacher and Joelle Rover.
Lebanon ended the first half strong with two touchdowns from Elisha Simmonds and Beckett York, along with two field goals. Lebanon led 32-14 at halftime before Glendale’s amazing comeback.
Glendale outscored Lebanon 35-6 in the final 19 minutes. The defense started making stops and the offense kept the chains moving.
Cameron Major got Glendale's offense going with a short rushing touchdown. Special teams hit the perfect pooch punt as the return team stole a possession. Spickard found Rover for a 21-yard touchdown pass on the next play.
With five minutes left in the third quarter, Lebanon’s Simmonds scored his second touchdown of the game from 51 yards away. The Yellowjackets led 38-28, but the Falcons big comeback was about to begin.
Spickard closed the gap thanks to an 8-yard rushing touchdown. Glendale’s offense was flawless in the fourth quarter. On the first play of the quarter, Spickard threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ben Stratton, giving the Falcons a 42-38 lead, the team’s first lead of the game.
Running back Samara Pickett iced the game for the Falcons with a 15-yard rushing touchdown with 3:40 left. It was the final score, coming on a drive that went for 76 yards and burned over five minutes of the clock.

Lamar edges Cassville in battle of unbeatens
The two top teams in the Big Eight Conference met in Week 6. Only one team could come out undefeated.
Lamar (6-0) took its chance and defeated Cassville 28-21. Running back Terren Williams scored all four touchdowns in the win. Williams’ touchdowns all came in a variety of ways.
Williams snagged a blocked punt and took it to the house for the game’s opening touchdown in the second quarter. Just before halftime, Williams scored a 23-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Clayton Powell.
Williams added two short rushing touchdowns in the second half, including the decisive score with less than four minutes to play. Williams’ final touchdown gave Lamar its 28-21 lead in a game that Cassville never led.
Cassville’s Mace Bredeson rushed for a 40-yard touchdown. Quarterback Jaren Stearns would later throw two passing touchdowns to Masin Bryan and Bredeson.
Lamar has solidified itself as a Class 2 contender, as the Cardinals currently rank No. 3. Cassville (5-1) ranks No. 3 in Class 3 and shouldn’t see its ranking fall too far after suffering a close defeat to a strong opponent.
Springfield Catholic extends undefeated record
Springfield Catholic (6-0) continued its winning ways with a 39-27 victory over Buffalo. The Irish didn’t play their cleanest game because of turnovers and penalties, but Catholic never flinched going wire-to-wire against the Bison.
Quarterback Jett Lewis threw three touchdown passes with two big throws to Jack Belz. He also found Sam Passanise for a big score. Sam Boster scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 78-yard scamper. Boston Hartman also added a short rushing touchdown.
Catholic’s defense forced four turnovers, with Hudson McLean securing an interception and a fumble.
For the first time in over 20 years, Catholic has started 6-0 in back-to-back seasons.
