Caitlin Clark was questioned for her appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay show, and her fans had no patience for the take whatsoever.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever suffered a disappointing end to their WNBA season a few days ago. A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces took care of them in Game 3, ensuring that the Fever were eliminated in just the first round of the playoffs.

It’s officially the offseason for the WNBA superstar, which brings its own opportunities and responsibilities. As one of the most famous athletes in the US, Clark is expected to make a fair few media appearances. She did so on ESPN’s College GameDay, and it led to a social media maelstrom.

Former ESPN anchor criticises Caitlin Clark, faces serious backlash on social media

Clark joined Pat McAfee and the other hosts on the ESPN show ahead of the Ohio State vs. Iowa clash. It was a hilarious segment, with McAfee taking his shirt off during, predicting a win for Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes. But not everyone was a fan.

Former NBC Sports and ESPN host Jason Page shared the clip on X, saying, “So Caitlin Clark goes on GameDay a couple of days after falling in a Game 3 that could have started a shift in her legacy. And 2 days after (what should be) a major disappointment, she’s yucking it up with Pat McAfee and the gang. It probably shouldn’t bother me, but it does.” Naturally, this did not go over well with her fans.

“You need to delete this post. Like now,” wrote one fan. “Her life goes on. She’s not grieving a death. Maybe there is something to be said for that. She has a life beyond basketball,” a second fan pointed out. “Most annoying sports journalist right here. And that says a lot,” claimed a third fan.

“The fact that it bothers you more than it bothers her tells me all I need to know about you,” a fourth comment said. “Wow what an extra lame delusional take. Careful, he’s hot and bothered ppl,” read another reply. “She’s doing her job. Repping her shoe release. What a stupid take,” said a sixth fan.

To get an idea of just how unpopular the take was, Page’s post has under 1,000 likes on X while there are well over 2,400 comments and counting. Safe to say, this might not be the greatest time to share uncalled for criticism of the Indiana Fever star.
