The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a heavy defeat in their second preseason game against the Golden State Warriors. The team lost 124-98, getting dominated right from the start. The Warriors scored 45 points in the first quarter, and led all the way through.

To provide some context, the Lakers were missing their three best players on the night. Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Walker Kessler were all unavailable, while Stephen Curry and Draymond Green both played for their opponents. Regardless, JJ Redick was not pleased after the game.

JJ Redick opens up on ‘insane’ start to game, names two players as bright spots in huge loss

Preseason wins and losses do not matter at all, but players underperforming on this level is never ideal. For Redick, the idea will be to instill his gameplan into the entire roster, and the fact that none of it was visible during the game is likely to be a huge red flag.

Speaking to the media after the game, the Lakers’ head coach did not mince his words while discussing the performance.

“The way we started that game was insane,” Redick said. The first half was unacceptable. I thought that group that started the second half, we got back to our physicality defensively, and Adou and Jake particularly were really good in that stretch.”

The shoutout for Adou Thierro and Jake LaRavia will feel good for the two as they try to cement their spots on the roster going into the new season. The Lakers have one win and one loss on their preseason record so far, and they will be hoping to go into the new season with better energy than this.
