Longtime Elmira hockey volunteer and Elmira Pioneers baseball supporter, Leo Parchesky, died on Monday. He was 87. For years, Parchesky could be seen volunteering at Elmira hockey games and most recently, for the Elmira Aviators where he greeted fans in the upstairs area. In those meetings, Parchesky was special in creating conversation, welcoming every guest with his trademark genuine approach and smile.
Parchesky is a proud Edison High School graduate in 1956 and a member of the Spartan Athletics Hall of Fame. He went on to serve in the United States Army and married his wife, Delores, who he spent 60 wonderful years of their lives together. Below, a full obituary and calling hour information courtesy of Caywoods Funeral Home in Southport.
18 Sports is proud to have worked and went on to become friends with Leo through our visits to the arena over the years. Never once did we not share a great conversation or simply talk sports with a smile. Leo will be sorely missed but never not appreciated for what he did for all of us in the Twin Tiers. All of strength goes out his family and friends during this time. Thank you for your friendship and dedication to our wonderful area.
Caywoods Funeral Home Obituary
Leo A. Parchesky, 87, of Millerton, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Leo was born on October 20, 1938, the son of the late, William and Mary Selewach Parchesky. He graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School with the Class of 1956 and was later honored with induction into the Thomas A. Edison Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University at Buffalo before serving his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. Leo spent his professional career in banking and lending, including many years with First Heritage Credit Union. Throughout his career, he held leadership roles in lending and took particular pride in helping local individuals and small businesses obtain the financing they needed to grow and succeed. He retired approximately 25 years ago, beginning a new chapter of his life that allowed him to devote even more of his time to his family and the community he loved. Service to his community was a constant throughout Leo’s life. He believed in being involved, contributing his time, and helping make the place he called home better for others. Over the years, Leo served on the Williamson Junior-Senior High School Board and the boards of the Mill Cove Environmental Area and the Tioga County Development Corporation. He was an active member of the Well Jackson Lions Club and was also a Mason and a member of the Elks and American Legion. His community involvement also included the Community Foundation of the Twin Tiers and the Millerton Methodist Church. Through these and many other activities, Leo formed lasting friendships and made a difference in the community he was proud to call home. On August 13, 1966, Leo married the love of his life, Dolores Dailey, in Millerton. Together, Leo and Dolores shared 60 years of marriage and built a life centered around family, friendship, community, and service to others. As important as his career and community service were to him, nothing meant more to Leo than his family. He loved being a father and took particular joy in being a grandfather. Leo believed in showing up for the people he loved. A talented athlete himself, he especially enjoyed attending his son’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, but his support extended far beyond sports. Whether it was a game, a concert, a play, or any other activity or milestone, Leo wanted to be there—to witness it, encourage them, and share in the moments that mattered to them. His family was his greatest source of pride and happiness. Leo is survived by his loving wife and lifelong companion, Dolores Dailey Parchesky of Millerton, PA; his son, Brian (Veronica) Parchesky of New Lebanon, NY; four grandchildren, Brandon Parchesky, Bailey Parchesky, Brianna Allen, and Eli O’Connor; his nieces, Susan (John) Friel, Mary (Lynn) Colleen Friends, and Anne (Gary) Grechank; six great-nephews; and one great-niece. Family and friends will be received at Caywood’s Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Elmira/Southport, NY 14904, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 1:15 p.m. Burial will take place in Alder Run Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Millerton United Methodist Church food pantry at P.O. Box 177 Millerton Pa 16936.
