‘Absolutely Terrible,’ ‘Dragging This Entire Team Down’ — NFL Fans Sound Off on Bo Nix’s Lack of Improvement With Sean Payton Calling Plays

The Denver Broncos have quickly become one of the most consistent teams in the NFL. But they have an obvious crux these days. Despite making the playoffs in each of his first two seasons, Bo Nix is starting to be seen as the weak link on the team.

A slow start to the 2026 campaign led many to blame offensive coordinator Davis Webb, who took over play-calling duties this offseason. But after a similarly disappointing outing in Week under Sean Payton, the blame is now shifting to the quarterback instead.

Fans Aren’t Sure About Bo Nix as QB1 for the Broncos

A stellar defense has always kept the Broncos in the hunt. And their QB1 has gotten them over the hump more times than not. This year, though, the first four weeks were largely disappointing, as the team managed only 13 total points in the first half.

As a result, Payton chose to take over playcalling duties before their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately, things didn’t improve much under him either. Throwing for a season low of 123 yards and a touchdown, it was the defense that led them to victory.

He also finished with a 64.3 grade on PFN’s Quarterback Impact Metric, his lowest of the season, which further dropped him to number 27. As a result, panic among fans is increasing by the day.

“Justin Herbert with 4 rookies on the OL, Charlie Kolar as the leading receiver: 10 points. Bo Nix with an All-Pro LT, All-Pro RG, and Jaylen Waddle as the leading receiver: 10 points,” Joel Moran of the “Pick A Side” podcast compared. “We are witnessing the worst QB in the history of the sport.”

Zack Kelberman added, “No matter who’s calling plays, it’s evident that Bo Nix is still not playing at the top of his game. Apprehensive, scared, overthinking. Complete lack of rushing upside. Nothing like the QB we saw last year. It’s… concerning.”

One fan called him “absolutely terrible,” while Benjamin Allbright pointed out, “I think the one thing everybody can agree on after this is that it definitely was not a play-caller problem.”

Given the quality of their offensive line, defense, and skill position players, especially after the addition of Waddle, one fan accused, “Bo Nix is dragging this entire team down.”

Nate Lundy explained, “Before I go on any rants … because I will undoubtedly go on a few … I will once again say that this is not a Davis Webb, Sean Payton, or problem. This. Is. A. Bo. Nix. Problem.”

Jeremy Nicolls blamed it on the broken ankle that Nix suffered near the end of their Divisional Round victory over the Buffalo Bills last season, claiming, “I miss when Bo Nix was a mobile QB. This Bo Nix, after that injury, is a totally different player.”

Even stout Broncos fans like Rachel Strand admitted, “Bo Nix is starting to worry me a tad, y’all…”

It remains to be seen if he turns around over the rest of the season. But for the time being, it has been a wildly disappointing start from the third-year quarterback whose team and fan base were hoping to take firm control of the AFC.
