Players who are unsure about whether to stay with LIV Golf for 2027 are apparently being told by the league’s leadership that they have received verbal commitments from up to 30 others.

It has been an extremely bleak time for those associated with LIV Golf, with a raft of names declaring last week that they do not intend to stay with the league next season.

Several big names have already confirmed that they will be leaving, including Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Louis Oosthuizen. Both Rahm and Oosthuizen had been captains of their respective teams.

Meanwhile, Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, and Ben Campbell have announced that they will be playing on LIV next year. Despite being LIV’s biggest cheerleader during the 2026 season, Bryson DeChambeau is yet to publicly announce that he is going nowhere.

Interestingly, those working behind the scenes on LIV believe that many more players are ready to sign up for 2.0.

Up to 30 players have reportedly committed to joining LIV 2.0

According to Flushing It on X, LIV higher-ups are telling undecided players that up to 30 golfers have already verbally agreed to stay.

Alarmingly for LIV, however, Flushing It noted that the reality may be quite different.

They wrote: ‘LIV Golf leadership have in recent weeks told players who are on the fence that they have “25-30 verbal commitments”. But it’s unclear how many, if any, have actually signed yet and my sourcing suggests that the true number will be considerably less. Relegated players have also already been approached about commitment for 2027.‘

Any hope LIV Golf had of being taken seriously has been dashed

As a serious golf league, it appears that LIV is completely finished. They struggled for credibility throughout their existence, but could at least point to some of the stars they had and argue that they deserved some respect.

DeChambeau, Cam Smith, and Dustin Johnson are among the players yet to confirm their next moves publicly. So it may well be that LIV retains a number of their biggest names.

However, it is difficult to see why any golfer who prioritises being the best player they can possibly be would have any reason to sign with LIV.

Clearly, the purses are still likely to be quite high. And if you are playing in events that include 50 journeymen golfers, you are going to be able to make a lot of money.

But the best players predominantly play on the PGA Tour, while the best global schedule takes you to the DP World Tour.

It is telling that very few have spoken out with any enthusiasm about the idea of signing up for LIV 2.0.
