Towns went down to the floor and appeared to be in significant pain before grabbing at his wrist.
Towns then headed to the locker room, with an apparent left wrist injury initially making his return to the game uncertain.
The timing was particularly concerning for New York considering Towns had been one of the Knicks’ most important players to begin the season. He entered Wednesday averaging 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game through three contests, according to the NBA injury/game data.
Knicks receive encouraging update as Towns returns

Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesThere was ultimately some good news for the Knicks. Towns returned to the court later in the first quarter with his wrist taped, according to reports. He came back with 2:18 remaining in the opening period after initially leaving for the locker room.
That return is an encouraging sign, but the injury will still be worth monitoring closely. Towns landing hard on his wrist and needing to leave the game for evaluation means the Knicks will likely want to see how he responds after the game before determining whether there are any further concerns.
For now, the immediate fear of losing Towns for the remainder of Wednesday’s game has been eased. The bigger question will be whether the wrist causes any lingering issues for the Knicks’ upcoming schedule.
