I don’t think there’s a lot of point in recapping Marquette’s 93-32 victory over Detroit Mercy on Friday night. It’s the second largest margin of victory in program history, trailing only a 67 point victory over Ripon on December 4, 1951. It’s the only 60+ margin of victory game against a team that’s currently in Division 1, and it’s just the second time that Marquette cleared 50+ as a margin since the 2001-02 season. Marquette set a KenPom era record for best defensive efficiency, surrendering just 0.475 points per possession.

So, let’s just rattle off the runs that Marquette went on in this game.

6-0

10-0 to lead by 11

7-0 to lead by 15

9-0 to end the half up 22

Combine the last two for 16-2 over the final eight minutes of the first half.

7-0 to start the second half and lead by 29

Combine the last three for 23-2

5-0, and that’s 28-2 over a 14 minute stretch bridging halftime, Marquette by 32

15-0 to lead by 44

9-0 to lead by 51

Combine the last two for 24-2 in less than seven minutes

9-0 to lead by 58

Combine the last three for 33-4 in just under 10 minutes of game time

And a nice little 5-0 over the final 1:42 to end the game.

How about some stats!

Leading scorer: Alex Egbuonu with 16 on 7-for-11 shooting

Leading rebounder: Sananda Fru and Josh Clark both had 8

Assists leader: Nigel James had 8 in just 23 minutes

Blocks leader: Josh Clark with 3

Steals leader: Nigel James with 4

Plus/minus leader: Josh Clark at +37

There’s so little to talk about here that they haven’t even uploaded the highlight reel yet. I’ll drop it in here if/when it goes up.

Up Next: Okay, enough fooling around, the next one’s a big one. Marquette will be off until Wednesday when they hit the road for the first time. That will be a visit to Ann Arbor to see the Michigan Wolverines, and tipoff on FS1 is scheduled for 6pm Central time. #16 Michigan took an 85-77 loss to #4 UConn on Friday night in Boston, so that ranking is going to change if nothing else by the time we get to Wednesday.
