Nick Nurse gives update on Joel Embiid after Sixers fall to Pistons

DETROIT -- As the Philadelphia 76ers move forward after a 131-109 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night, they will find out what the next steps are for big man Joel Embiid.

The big fella has not played since Feb. 26 as a right oblique strain has had him sidelined. Embiid finished that contest that night against the Miami Heat, but has been unable to get back on the court since. The Sixers are 2-5 since the 2023 MVP winner went down with that injury.

The Sixers announced on March 6 that Embiid would be re-evaluated in a week which would mean Friday is the day. After the loss to the Pistons, coach Nick Nurse confirmed that he will be evaluated, and that he is working out, but it isn't any on-court work.

"I know he's working out, etc.," Nurse said on Thursday. "I don't know where we are expectation-wise. I know he's feeling little bit better. I guess we'll wait and find out till tomorrow."

The Sixers dropped to the No. 9 seed on Thursday with the loss to the Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks defeating the Brooklyn Nets. As Philadelphia gets set for a back-to-back this upcoming weekend, it would be a huge lift for this group if Embiid could return when considering all of the other injuries up and down the roster.
