Day One of the 2026 MLB Draft has come and gone and with it went Deven Sheerin as the former LSU baseball reliever is now a Philadelphia Philly. The Phillies selected Sheerin in the fourth round with the 128th overall selection in Saturday's MLB Draft.

Sheerin only pitched one season in Baton Rouge after transferring in from Mount St. Mary's. As a freshman with Mount St. Mary's, Sheerin set program records with 109 strikeouts, 14 strikeouts per nine innings pitched, and a .197 opposing batting average across 70 innings pitched. Sheerin won the MAAC's rookie of the year award in 2024, was a second-team Freshman All-American per PerfectGame and was viewed as the No. 8 overall prospect in the transfer portal.

Sheerin watched the entirety of LSU's 2025 national championship run from the dugout as he recovered from a torn ACL. His first appearance as a Tiger came against Milwaukee in the season-opening weekend of 2026.

Sheerin emerged as LSU's closer, as he was credited with five saves in 20 appearances. Sheerin went 3-2 with a 4.78 ERA. He struck out 58 in 37.2 innings pitched, but walked 18, threw eight wild pitches, and hit another eight batters.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Sheerin is ranked as the No. 145 overall prospect in the 2026 Draft. His plus-plus fastball comfortably sits 97 MPH and hit 100 a few times this past season. Sheerin projects as a reliever at the professional level, and if he improves his control, he could end up being a late-innings option for a team.

Sheerin was the third Tiger selected on Day 1 of the draft, joining Derek Curiel (5th overall to Pittsburgh) and Jake Brown (65th overall to Seattle).
