Walters, who hasn’t thrown a pitch in the majors since last season, has undergone UCL repair surgery. The procedure was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas, and comes with an expected return-to-play timeline of 10-to-12 months.
Walters was terrific in the Cleveland bullpen near the end of 2024 — it was a small sample, but it did earn him a playoff roster spot — but has dealt with injury setbacks, one after the other, since that time. He threw all of 1 1/3 innings in the majors in 2025. This season, he’s posted a 9.49 ERA in 12 1/2 innings in Triple-A.
While battling injuries and trying to return to the Guardians bullpen in Cleveland, it’s now possible Walters will now miss most, if not all, of the 2027 season as well.
