After close losses to a ranked in-state FCS opponent and a Top 25 FBS opponent to kick off the 2026 campaign, the Abilene Christian Wildcats football team will be looking for a statement win in its first home game of the season
Abilene Christian (0-2) – ranked No. 23 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll – will battle the 13th-ranked Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (2-0) in their home opener at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium in Abilene.

The battle between the Wildcats and 'Jacks will be one of two Week 2 matchups featuring ranked FCS squads clashing against one another.
The 23rd-ranked Wildcats boast an 8-5 record against ranked FCS opponents since 2024.
ACU’s matchup with SFA also represents a rematch of a second-round game in the 2025 FCS Playoffs that the Wildcats lost 41-34 last December in Nacogdoches.
In their most recent matchup in last year’s FCS Playoffs, the Wildcats racked up 419 total yards of offense but were outscored by the Lumberjacks 17-7 during the fourth quarter.
Abilene Christian and SFA have met on the football field 24 times in a series that dates back to 1953.
Stephen F. Austin holds a slight 15-13 lead in the all-time series history between the two schools on the gridiron, but ACU has won two out of its last four games against the Jacks.
The Wildcats own a 5-9 record against the Lumberjacks since the series resumed following Abilene Christian’s move up from NCAA Division II to the FCS after a 15-year pause in the series from 1999 to 2014.
Abilene Christian will travel to face Stephen F. Austin in September 2027 at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches in the next scheduled meeting between the two schools.
